R&R in Quillabamba

after some severe breathing difficulties on my birthday I had to agree to take steroids after flat refusing for 13 years. It was that or not dance and I couldn't face that prospect. Kike suggested going to the mountains to recuperate and Carlos suggested Quillabamba, a very small town on the edge of the jungle. His familly originated from there but he'd never been so the two of us set off on an 8 hour bus trip through the mountains. The trip itself was spectacular and the mountains startted to weave their magic quickly. Carlos learned that at the height of Carnaval (a country-wide waterfight!) it is a bad idea to sit looking out of an open window on a bus passing through Ollantaytambo. A huge water ballon straight through the window all over him had the whole bus in stitches :)
When we got to Quillabamaba we found the cemetary and looked for the grave of Carlos's uncle, also named Carlos, who drowned in the river Vilcanota before Carlos was born. We couldn't find the grave but we did throw flowers into the river in his memory. We spent most of our time hanging around the river paddling and relaxing then later went for a walk in the forest.
We only stayed 2 nights but it was exactly what I needed and I feel re-energised and ready to get back to life as we know it!
A wonderful weekend in a wonderful place with a wonderful friend :)
