long time no posts!
I moved into the apartment but have had to wait almost a month for the internet to be connected. Now I'm back on line and will keep you all up to date with the gossip.
I still love the apartment, the classroom is ready for it's first students and the salsa studio is having regular use for students and for me and the three guys who help me teach more advanced classes.
Buying firniture was an experience. In England if you want a new lounge suit you choose it, order it, pay for it then wait up to 4 months for delivery and hope the company doesn't go bust meanwhile and you lose all your money. Here it's, ok I like that one and flag down a taxi (or two) to take it home.
I did have my bed and wardrobe delivered cos they were too big for a taxi although the mattress came home on the roof of a taxi with Rosa and I hanging onto one side each through the windows while reminding the taxi driver 'despacio senor - cuidate' at every turn. Luckily it was only for 1/4 mile or so! When the bed and wardrobe arrived there was a 'slight' problem, it wouldn't fit through the staircase. Now if that had been england it would have been back to the shop - or a flat pack - but no such problems here. The two carpenters who delivered it dismantled it on the pavement and rebuilt it in my bedroom. It took about 3 hours! The bed (with integral side tables) and wardrobe unit (very large) are solid cedar, beautifully hand made and will last forever - total cost around £200!!!
Talking of transporting things everything here goes in a taxi, yesterday I spotted one of the estate cars towing a large cement mixer. By towing I mean a kid was sat in the estate part with the door open holding onto it by the handle! Then there are the little mopeds with 3 or 4 gas bottles tied all around the back.
Got to go - lots more later
